SCHOOLS OF CHOICE ENROLLMENT FOR SECOND SEMESTER 2021-2022
Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools will be accepting K-12 Schools of Choice applications for the 2021-2022 school year. The application window for second semester enrollment of the 2021-2022 school year will be January 3, 2022 through January 17, 2022. Applications will be available on January 3rd, 2022 at www.g-aschools.org or the administration office, 1076 N. 37th Street, Galesburg, MI 49053. Dear Galesburg-Augusta Community Members,
In August 2021, the Board of Education voted to have parents decide whether or not their Middle School and High School students wear masks, while our K-6 students were required to wear them in the classroom. On December 17th, 2021, the county’s K-6 mask mandate expires.
When the new year begins and students return to school on January 3, 2022, it will once again be optional for Middle School and High School students to wear masks during school sponsored events. In addition, parents of primary school students will now also be given the choice to have their children wear masks, or not, at school sponsored events. We are not yet sure whether the requirement to wear a mask on school buses will be lifted. In addition, we should emphasize that the CDC still strongly encourages wearing masks in school. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: November 16, 2021
Dear Galesburg-Augusta Community Members:
The result of the ongoing Covid pandemic, the cold and flu season, as well as the shortage of staff available for hire, have made this a challenging school year. Not only are we short staffed (open/unfilled positions), but we have also had a high number of staff sickness. On most days in the recent few weeks, we have not been able to fill all classrooms with certified teachers, and often have had to combine classes to get through the day. Additionally, the number of students absent due to illness is rising.
Therefore, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools will be closed on Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23 prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. We believe that this longer break from the classroom, a total of nine days, will provide an opportunity to do a thorough cleanse of our school buildings and give time for staff and students to get well. Our goal is that come Monday, Nov 29, 2021, when we return to the classrooms, we will be fully staffed, students’ attendance will be closer to 100%, and we can focus on teaching and learning.
Childcare will be available and athletics will continue both Monday and Tuesday of next week.
We may continue to see Covid cases rise even after the Thanksgiving break, but the good news is that Kalamazoo County is doing much better than our surrounding counties. I do want to encourage staff and families, if they have not already done so, to consider using the additional time off to get their vaccinations or booster shot. Our common goal is to keep children in school. With the loss of learning time last year, we have lots of catching up to do. Whatever each family can do to support this goal, I am grateful for.

Middle School (7th-8th) boys basketball home game today vs Martin. 7th grade boys game will start at 5:00. 8th grade game will start 10 minutes after 7th grade finishes. Admission is $3.
There is NO Boys Youth Basketball Camp on today or Wednesday this week. We will have Boys camp on Friday, November 12. Grades 1st-3rd 3:00-4:15, 4th-6th grade 4:00-5:30.
Basketball shirt order forms are DUE FRIDAY, November 12. The forms can be returned anytime this week to the Primary or MS offices.
7th and 8th grade basketball practice will be at the Primary School after school today. Boys will be bussed to the Primary. Practice will finish at 1:00pm.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Varsity Volleyball Team on their District Semi-Final victory over Delton-Kellogg last night!
